WASHINGTON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICTCLASSIFICATION: PARAEDUCATOR II, SP. ED.SALARY RANGE: 22GROUP: STUDENT SERVICESDATE OF ADOPTION/REVISION: 01/22/09DESCRIPTION:Under direct supervision, assists classroom teachers by working with exceptional students on an individual or group basis and performing routine clerical tasks. Typical duties will include, but are not limited to, preparing educational materials, assisting with classroom assignments, testing and record keeping, correcting homework, monitoring classroom during the emergency or temporary absence of the teacher, grading tests and homework assignments, and making home visits with teacher when required. Must posses the ability to assist in instructing, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate. Other duties will include preparing seating charts, taking attendance and typing, duplicating and assembling instructional, test and other materials. Performs other related duties as assigned.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Incumbents must demonstrate proficiency in basic subjects by passing the District proficiency or equivalent test as approved by the Director of Personnel.QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of:- Child development and behavioral management techniques;- Basic English and math skills;- First aid and safety practices;- Clerical practices and procedures;- Basic computer input and retrieval methods.ANDAbility to:- Learn and apply classroom procedures and curriculum;- Assist in evaluating student academic progress;- Exercise patience and tact in working with exceptional students while maintaining classroom discipline;- Follow oral and written instructions and work on own initiative;- Maintain confidentiality of student records;- Type 35 WPM and perform routine clerical tasks;- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work.ANDTraining and experience:- Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain such knowledge and abilities would be: Two years of experience, preferably in a school district and involving extensive contact with students. Completion of college level courses in specialized areas may be substituted for required experience.Physical Abilities:Requires ambulatory ability to go to different locations. Requires speaking and hearing to communicate in person or over the phone. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers. Requires lifting of light to moderate objects on an occasional basis and sufficient ambulatory ability to stand for sustained periods of time. May require lifting heavy objects (over 50 pounds) on a daily basis. Requires sufficient arm, hand and finger dexterity in order to operate a personal computer keyboard, typewriter, and other office equipment. Neck flexion and rotation to read and work on computer. Bends and twists at the waist. Kneels, squats or crouches to work with students and to retrieve and file materials.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
