Job descriptionThe California Correctional Peace Officers' Association, the labor union representing California's Correctional Peace Officers, is accepting applications for a Communications-Copy Editor.
This position is located in our West Sacramento, CA office.

Summary:
Under direction of the Chief Operations Officer, the Communications - Copywriter is responsible for planning, and coordinating, the California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA) publications, print media, and websites.
In addition, the incumbent will work with the Mass Communications Specialist to coordinate internal communications with the staff and CCPOA membership.
Essential Functions:
Set and meet required editorial and production deadlines.
Capable of effectively crafting and communicating CCPOA's message both internally and externally Work independently to pursue stories and content as directed.
Coordinate with staff assigned to Communications and other CCPOA staff assigned to specific Communications projects.
Ability to coordinate with public relations firm(s), print and/or digital media firms as needed.
Must be able to travel statewide.
Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
Duties:
Organize, coordinate, and develop the Peacekeeper magazine including concepts and themes.
Research and write articles for the Peacekeeper magazine.
Manage the publication of the Peacekeeper along with the appropriate printing companies.
Work with the CCPOA leadership and CCPOA divisions to develop media strategies to promote the message of the organization, report on current affairs.
Attend (or assign designee to attend) Association events to coordinate coverage for future stories or video pieces.
Support and enhance CCPOA's relationship with stakeholders, such as Bargaining Unit 6 members, the general public, government officials, community leaders, media and internal staff.
Collaborate with CCPOA Human Resources to develop and implement a CCPOA employee communication plan(s).
Coordinate with the webmaster, build relationship(s) with web/software developers to manage, improve, and effectively communicate the Association's message online.
Collaborate with the Mass Communications Specialist and contribute material for the Members' Only website.
Facilitate digital communications of the organization at the direction of CCPOA leadership and in coordination with the Mass Communications Specialist.
Follow and support all policies and procedures relating to Communications.
Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Business, Public Relations, Communications or other related field and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Media Relations, Public Relations, Journalism, or other related field; additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree; strong computer skills; knowledge of AP Stylebook; working knowledge of video production programs such as Adobe Premier; strong attention to detail, excellent writing and editing skills.
Ability to conduct interviews, develop content, meet deadlines, produce print ready copy, and supervise effectively so the content meets journalistic standards.
Knowledge of social media analytics software including Facebook Insights and Google Analytics to track audience engagement and campaign performance.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
